welcome! this card was created to collect and convey information about the bts hyyh universe.. it will be continuously updated since there are recent theories about hyyh making a comeback.
all information will be credited and we encourage you to check out and support the sites mentioned!

summary and meaning
The bu universe hyyh which stands for “hwa yang yeon hwa” (hangul: 화양연화) (chinese: 花樣年華) meaning and translating to the most beautiful time of one's life.
hyyh is a story of youth and the hardships that youthful adults surpass in their life. each member represent a different story. There are several story meanings like family, love, friendship, and happiness.
with the release of the bts music video “I Need U”, (uploaded on April 29, 2015) they began to portray characters in some of their videos and follow a storyline.
However, not everything from bts is part of this universe, therefore content relevant to the story is marked with either the bu logo, or "bu content certified by big hit entertainment" at the end of youtube descriptions.
the Bu universe dates back as to mid-2015 but there are several videos from mid-2017 that are also marked as part of the bu.
the term HYYH, comes from the videos I Need U, Prologue, and Run. These videos are part of the album trilogy “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life”, and are now seen as the beginning of the Bangtan universe.

the highlight reel
the highlight reel videos were released (from august 15 2017 to august 18 of that same year) as a mini drama series with two trailers and an official video to tease their comeback love yourself: her. these are heavily base on the notes and an important part of bangtan universe. we will leave a playlist including all bu content videos right on the picture! (i need u, run, and the prologue are included)
the notes
the hyyh notes are bits of narrative text that originally appeared as tweets and small booklets at the time of release of love yourself: her. After releasing the first note on bighit’s official twitter, four booklets were released, one in each version of the her album.
in order to obtain all of the information, we need to read each version’s booklet.
A note was also shared on twitter before the release of The love yourself: tear and answer albums, that also contained new booklets.
After this trilogy, hyyh the notes book 1 was released. This covered some of the notes already released and provided some additional content.
with the release of map of the soul: persona, we got new booklets with new information. Mots: 7 also contained new booklets. even though hyyh the notes book 1 was released in english, the small note booklets were not.

storyline
now that we went over the basics, lets move on to the actual storyline! these are based on both the notes and the webtoon. click on who you want to begin with.

kim namjoon
As a middle schooler, namjoons family became dependent of him. He lived in poverty with his sick father, mother and younger brother. His brother got into a fight with the landlords son causing them to get evicted and to live in a little storage unit. He has a fallout with jin causing them to not see eachother for two years.
While at work, namjoon snaps and beats up a rude customer. While in jail he misses a call from Taehyung who had just killed his father. One day while working he salted the roads so it would be easier for trips, but instead it causes a deathly accident of a fellow delivery boy. Namjoons blames himself for the boys death.
Namjoons life becomes overwhelming because of people depending on him. He lives by the words his father told him “you must survive”. He then goes separate ways from his family.
Before the fight at the beach, taehyung overheard namjoon on the phone saying he cant carry the burdens of someone who is only a year younger than him, tae believes its him. namjoons was talking about his brother. This makes them go their seperate ways.
Namjoon eventually tell jin about the bruises he has seen on taehyung while he would sleep in his container.
kim seokjin
seokjin is the son of a classist business man. he was never allowed to cry or show emotion. he lived in a toxic hyper masculinity environment.
he was sent to live with his maternal grandmother in the us, but returns to south korea to repeat a year of school. there he mets the rest of the boys, they started skipping school and going to the beach. Jin ends up exposing on of their spots, which causes of yoongi and jungkook to get caught in that classroom.
after the boys falling out, jungkook and yoongi commit suicide, namjoon gets jailed, jimin and hoseok are in the hospital and taehyung kills his father. This start the time loops and the mission to travel back and save the boys. he ends up saving most of the boys, but because of his inability to actually be honest with them causes for him and tae to fight by the sea.
seokjin then meets a girl at the train station that had dropped her diary. this remind him of when he told jungkook that his dream was to become a good person. With this he decides to become the perfect boyfriend for this girl.
In the girls diary she mentions the flower of smeraldo. He invites her out to make plans and find the flower. He finds the only place it’s available, a small shop. when he asks for the truck to turn around because they forgot the card, the truck hits the girl.
While away from the boys, he work for his father who is planning a construction that will leave namjoon homeless, by taking off the containers from the site. Jin also finds journals in his father’s office, one stating “map of the soul”.
A popular theory is that seokjins father also once lived through the timeloops, but gave up and became more powerful independently. Jin doesnt want to become his father.
min yoongi
when yoongi was younger his mother killed herself by setting their house on fire, the only thing surviving the fire was her piano. despite not being close with his mother, he still carried the her love for piano with him.
While playing his moms melody for jungkook, a teacher founds them in their room and slaps jungkook, yoongi gets expelled for defending him and kicked out of his house by his father. before that he is sitting next to his mother piano telling himself he will never play the piano again.
Yoongi turns to drinking and smoking. Which makes it hard for jin to follow in each timeloop. one night while he is drunk he follows the sound of a piano leading him to jungkook. its the first time seeing eachother after the expulsion and yoongi plays the piano for him.
he avoids jungkook for a while causing them to grow apart once again. when jin gets jungkook to visit yoongi in his workroom, he is overwhelmed by his drunkness and they into a physical fight. this makes yoongi go into a motel and want to set it on fire and end it all. in a successful timeloop, jungkook saves yoongi.
after the groups fallout at the beach, jimin calls yoongi to tell him jungkook got into an accident. he goes to visit him at the hospital but once he sees jungkook across the hall, frail and sick, he leaves and doesn't end up visiting him. yoongi blames himself for hurting and causing harm to the people close to him.
hoseok finds out about this and finds him drunk on a curb, he gets furious. hoseok starts yelling at yoongi and adding salt to the wounds. yells at him for thinking that the world is against him, when the others have problems too. yelling at him to think about jungkooks feelings.
with that yoongi starts making an effort. he reaches out to the boys and with a song he invites them to see fireworks together.
jung hoseok
Hoseok says he has narcolepsy (a condition characterized by a tendency to fall asleep in relaxing surroundings) because he passes out at random moments. but he later confesses to jimin that the pills he actually takes are sugar pills, and that he actually has Münchausen Syndrome (a disorder that where one acts as as if they have a mental or physical illness). The cause of this syndrome derives from when hoseok was abandoned as a child.
Hoseok joins a dance team with a friend of the orphanage, he has been dancing since he was twelve. He then ages out of the orphanage and moves to a small apartment, also working at a joint. He get hurt at work and passes out, meeting jimin in the hospital. Jimin saves hoseok from falling down the stairs as he was chased by a shadow he thought was his mom.
Hoseok makes a plan to break him and jimin out of the hospital. It works and they celebrate in namjoons container.
after their fallout he takes times for himself, putting himself before others. he takes a leave from work and dance to skip town and join a traveling dance crew. there he meets a dancer that inspires him to not give up on himself or others.
park jimin
While on a field trip to grass flower Arboretum, jimin was told, by his teacher, to wait outside when it began to rain he went to an open storage unit for shelter.
Nothing is known about what happened in the storage unit, you only see the aftermath of him being transferred to different hospitals and moving houses about five times.
School didn’t make it any better for him to move on. Kids at school only gave him more anxiety by asking him questions about his hospital visits/leaving him out.
One day at a bus stop he suffers a seizure and is sent to the emergency room, never returning to school after that. He spent weeks in the hospital he was a hollow shell of a person. Eventually talking to doctors was too much, he just lie and say he remembered nothing.
Hoseok comes into the picture when he is roomed with Jimin and after he found out it was Jimin and his parents who kept him hospitalized. His plan was to somehow break Jimin out of the hospital.
However Seokjin is not in full support of hoseoks since they don’t know what’s really wrong with him.
When Jimins mother finds out she takes Jimin back into his room, slaps him, then blames him for all the hardships their family has had to endure thanks to him.
This is when jimin’s association with water and cleanliness begins to show. He felt dirty and drowning himself was a way to rewind time.
Jimins plan to break out of the hospital is three different timelines with three different outcomes.
1st: Seokjin wasn’t involved but he finds them and hesitates to let them go.
2nd: Seokjin drives the wrong way past the Arboretum causing Jimin to jump out the car.
3rd: All of the boys were present. Their plan was to pretend to throw a birthday party and then rush out all at once not giving the guards or nurses a chance to grab them. Afterwords Jimin and lives with Hoseok in his loft, eventually joining Hoseoks dance crew.
After the fight at the beach Jimin decides to go home and confront his parents. He separates himself from everyone and goes back to school so he can graduate.
kim taehyung
when taehyung was a child, his father started physically abusing him and his family. his mother ran away when he was 10 years old. taehyung followed her out of the apartment but she never looked back.
taehyung starts getting these vision like dreams about the other timeloops and predictions on how each time loop could end. he sees from jungkook and yoongi dying to namjoon in jail, this torments him and he goes to ask jin about it. seokjin lies to him and tells
him “they are only dreams”. before seokjin can come clean and tell the others about his mistakes, taehyung beats him to it. taehyung get furious and feels betrayed. jin throws a punch and they begin to fight.
after their fight, taehyungs dreams change. he sees blue flowers, and a girl lying in blood by the street, with seokjin standing by her.
things calm down in taehyung household after hoseok stops him from killing his father in one of the timeloops. taehyung asks his sister about their mother and she tells him that she knows where she went, and that she misses him a lot. taehyung get her address to confront her but before he does, jungkook sees him and follows him in crutches. when tae’s anger subsides, him and jungkook get harassed by some guys at the convenient store that makes jungkook drop his hot ramen all over himself. after that taehyung decides he doesnt want to find her anymore. this makes jungkook feel guilty, that they now cant see her because of his spoiled pants. Taehyung gets angry that someone like jungkook, that never has any ill intentions could blame himself. then he realizes that he should also cut himself some slack.
when he’s watching fireworks with the boys, he gets a vision of the flowers of smeraldo covered in blood and glass shattering. then he opens his eyes and wakes up in his bed, its April 11th again.
jeon jungkook
Jungkooks mom demonized the mentally ill. Jungkook was never free to express his emotions/mentality due to his mothers views on the mentally ill, After his depressed father left him on his 7th birthday.
After he left Jungkook convinced himself that he was the reason he left, when in reality he left because he didn’t think he could properly care for Jungkook.
Time passes and Jungkook met Yoongi, with time they became close. Jungkook would come to Yoongi and listen to him play “their melody” on the piano. One day how ever a teacher caught them and slapped Jungkook, Yoongi defended him which then resulted in his expulsion from the school later on.
Time passes and his mother gets remarried. His step father and step brother didn’t make things better. They made him feel worthless; his stepfather would emotionally abuse him while his step brother hit him. For this reason Jungkook found any reason to be anywhere but “home.”
One night he bumped into the wrong people and ended up getting beat up. Shortly after he makes his way to the top of a building where he kills himself, thinking nobody in the world would miss him.
A Butterfly Effect is created by Jin who wants to save him so that he can answer Yoongis call and then save Yoongi from burning down the motel he was at.
After the boys as a whole had their second fallout at the beach, Jungkook is hit by a car. No one else knew so he was left alone for weeks at the hospital, with only the memory of a voice asking if he wanted that to be his end.
webtoon
Save me is a 15 episode webtoon that bighit released from january to april 2019.
the hyyh story of the bu features the seven main characters, all named based on bts.
and even though we are about to discuss all of their backstories, this webtoon focuses more on seokjin.
the webtoon tells the story of protagonist (jin) who is trapped in a time loop, repeatedly reliving his life from the date of april 11th, from which he can escape only when he accomplishes the task of saving the rest of the members from their destined miseries.
this webtoon shows the hyyh timeline that is set in the year 22, and there are notes leading up to april 11th of that year, plus there are also notes after that date. that means this story takes place somewhere in the middle. also the save me logo contains a zero, and the hyyh notes contains a one, which tells us that save me happens before some of the hyyh notes.
knowing this, reading this webtoon can be a lot more beneficial before taking on the hyyh notes.
this webtoon shows us what happens to the group once they parted ways, before seokjin interferes.

the smeraldo flower
The Smeraldo blog mysteriously appeared right before the Love Yourself: HER comeback in 2017. It provides information and a backstory related to the fictional flower, smeraldo.
The meaning of this flower is "non posso dire la verità" which means "I cannot tell the truth" something related to the previous explanations. the smeraldo flowers have been discovered in "Le cittá di smeraldo” or "The city of smeraldo" commonly known as "The Wizard of Oz”. (this has influenced some popular theories)
Seokjin also tweeted a photo with the flower, a month before the album released. thanks to this tweet the Smeraldo blog on naver was discovered, which had been created on July 4, 2017 and already had a few posts.
The blog was inactive until July 10, 2020, when the posts were deleted again and the first story was once again reuploded.
